What optional extras can I add to my AXA home insurance policy?
When taking out a home insurance policy with AXA, you have the option to tailor your policy to your needs. You can add optional extras to your policy either when you’re getting a quote or at any point throughout your policy and you can do this yourself simply by logging in to your AXA account online. There are six optional extras you can add to your policy but it’s worth noting that some of these optional extras are included as standard in AXA’s HomeSure and HomeSafe policies.
Accidental damage
As you might have guessed, this protects you against accidental damage, such as accidental spillages on your furniture, broken windows, cutting through an electric cable or drilling through a water pipe. Accidental damage for buildings is included as standard with HomeSafe and HomeSure policies and can be added for an additional price to HomeSmart policies. Accidental damage for contents is included in all HomeSafe policies but can be added to HomeSmart and HomeSure for an additional price.
Personal possessions
This protects items that you take out and about with you, such as mobile phones, jewellery and bicycles. You can add personal possessions protection of up to £30,000. HomeSafe policies cover your personal possessions up to £2,500 but you can choose to increase this to £30,000 for an additional price.
Home assistance
If you add home assistance to your policy, you can call AXA’s domestic helpline any minute of any day and they will arrange for an authorised contractor to get your home back to normal as quickly as possible. You’ll be covered for up to £1,000 per claim for call out, materials, labour and parts. This level of cover is included as standard in all HomeSafe policies with a higher limit of £1,500 per claim for call out, materials, labour and parts.
Legal expenses
If you find yourself in a situation where you need expert legal assistance, you could be left seriously out of pocket. With additional legal expenses cover, you’ll receive up to £50,000 of legal cover. You’ll also get access to a free 24 hour legal helpline and discounts on services such as will writing and conveyancing. Legal expenses cover is included as standard with all HomeSafe policies with a higher limit of £100,000.
Student cover
AXA’s student cover protects students possessions whilst they’re living away from home in student accommodation. You can get up to £5,000 of cover per student.
Bicycle cover
You can add bicycle cover to your AXA home insurance policy to protect against loss or damage in and away from home. You’ll get up to £1,500 cover for each bicycle and £3,000 in total.
Managing your AXA home insurance policy and making a claim
You can access your policy anytime, anywhere by logging into your AXA account online. Logging into your account gives you the ability to:
- View and print your policy documents and insurance certificates
- See exactly what’s covered in your policy wording
- Save PDFs of policy documents to send to others
- Add or remove optional extras
- Change personal details or update your contact details
- Add or remove people on your policy
Any changes you make to your policy may affect the cost of your premiums but you’ll be able to see them instantly online and decide whether you still want to go ahead or not.
You can also login to your AXA account to make a claim. When you make a claim, you will need to have your policy number to hand, this can be found in your AXA account. You’ll need to tell AXA what damage there is to your home, provide photos of any lost or damaged items (if you have them) and any related receipts, quotes or invoices. You’ll also need to let the claims team know what type of building your home is, when it was built and provide details about the structure of your home, such as how many bedrooms and bathrooms there are.
When you either call AXA or register your claim online, AXA will quickly get your claim recorded. A member of AXA’s specialist claims team will follow up your claim with a call to get your claim underway. They aim to get back to you within four working hours of registering your claim. However, if you register your claim on a weekend, you’re likely to hear back the following Monday.
AXA will do their best to resolve your claim as quickly as possible. You may have to submit a quote for approval or AXA may appoint one or more of their approved suppliers or loss adjusters to help manage your claim to settlement. AXA doesn’t provide a timescale for settling home insurance claims.
